LHS Earns Gold Seal of Approval

On December 5, 2008, Lake Hospital System earned accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (The Joint Commission). In their closing comments surveyors praised the LHS team for their flexibility, dedication and commitment to high-quality care. The accreditation signifies that LHS complies with the highest standards for safety and quality of care. The Joint Commission accreditation is a nationwide seal of approval that indicates a hospital meets high performance standards.

A Top Hospital

In spring 2006, Solucient named Lake Hospital System to its list of 100 Top Hospitals in the country for the second time in three years. Solucient, a leading source of health care business intelligence, recognized LHS for achieving excellence in quality of care, operational efficiency, financial performance, and adaptation to the environment. LHS was one of only 20 hospitals in the nation recognized in the category of large community hospitals.

A Friend to the Environment

In 2006, Hospitals for a Healthy Environment bestowed upon Lake Hospital System its "Making Medicine Mercury Free" award. This one-time award is given to facilities that have met the challenge of becoming virtually "mercury free." Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E) is a voluntary progam designed to help health care facilities enhance work place safety, reduce waste and waste disposal costs, and become better environmental stewards and neighbors. One of H2E's initiatives focuses on ridding health care institutions of  mercury-containing devices--such as fever thermometers and blood pressure cuffs. When these devices are discarded, mercury can leach into water supplies and contaminate fish and, ultimately, people.

A Great Place to Work

In 2007, for the sixth year in a row, Lake Hospital System was named one of the 99 best places to work in northeast Ohio. The NorthCoast 99 award, presented every fall by the Employers Resource Council, identified top organizations in northeast Ohio that excel in areas such as compensation, benefits, health and safety, diversity, recruitment and retention, work/life, community services, training and education, and employee communication.
